This is the shot that inspired Kim Kardashian’s Paper Magazine cover

Often referred to as “Champagne Incident,” Jean-Paul Goude’s picture, titled “Carolina Beaumont, New York, 1976,” is characteristic of the artist's playful, winking approach to sexuality. Goude, a French-born contemporary artist and designer, began his career in magazines — he served as art director for Esquire during the ’70s — and later created frank, colorful images that flirted with the boundary between fine art and advertising.

This image is from an eight-page, 1976 spread from Esquire called "French Correction." The aim of the spread was to play with the changing proportions of people's bodies. All of Goude's images were taken in the pre-photoshop era.

Goude re-created this famous shot for the winter 2014 issue of Paper Magazine - this time, featuring Kim Kardashian. The Kim Kardashian version of the "Champagne Incident" immediately generated tremendous buzz and millions of views - just as the magazine intended.
