It’s no secret that Spider-Man will be entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time with Captain America:
Civil War. However, there’s still a lot we don’t know about the webcrawler’s appearance in the movie. Even though we know that this will be a teenage version of Peter Parker played by Tom Holland, we don’t know how long he’ll appear in the movie, what his suit will look like, or anything like that. But a new rumor may have given us one detail that we didn’t know previously: how the Avengers recruit Spider-Man in Captain America Civil War.
Find out details after the jump, but beware of spoilers from here on out.
Geek.com, an untested source when it comes to movie news scoops, has news on how Spidey ends up playing with the Avengers. It shouldn’t be surprising to hear that he’s recruited by another superhero who took justice into his own hands. Apparently Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) has been keeping an eye on young Peter Parker and he seeks the teenager out to recruit him. Perhaps Stark sees a little of himself in young Parker since he’s always had an aptitude for science and getting into trouble.
But the question is, why does Peter accept this offer instead of just continuing to work on his own? The source says that Peter was inspired to become Spider-Man because of how he grew up idolizing Tony Stark. Keep in mind that within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Stark has been Iron Man for almost ten years. And since Peter is just 15, he’s grown up with Stark as a real-life superhero in the world. So if someone like Stark comes to your house and asks you to join his team, you’re not going to say no, especially if he offers you an advanced suit for your vigilante activities.
Having Stark recruit Spidey just makes sense, especially since another rumor a while back said that the webslinger will get into an altercation with Captain America (Chris Evans) in Civil War. That doesn’t mean that Spider-Man is permanently on the side of Stark though. After all, Spidey famously switched sides in the Civil War comics, and that could easily happen in the movie too. Steve Rogers knows what it’s like to be an awkward, skinny kid in New York, so they might have something to bond over.
Anyway, this is all just a rumor right now, so take it with a grain of salt. But with Captain America: Civil War just a few months away, hopefully we’ll find out a lot more about Spider-Man’s role in the movie soon, and maybe even get a look at his new suit. Stay tuned.
