Boy (16) impregnates cousin

A 16-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo boy and his cousin aged 13, who were involved in an incestuous relationship resulting in the birth of a baby, were on Wednesday convicted for having sex within a prohibited degree (incest).

The boy was sentenced to receive two strokes of the cane while the girl had passing of sentence suspended conditionally.

The two who reside in the same neighbourhood in Nketa pleaded guilty to a charge of incest when they appeared before Western Commonage Court magistrate Maphios Moyo who convicted them on their plea.

The boy will receive two strokes of the rattan cane administered by a designated prison officer at the Bulawayo Prisons.

Moyo suspended passing sentence on the girl who is a student at Maranatha Adventist High School for five years on condition of good behaviour.

Prosecutor Kenneth Shava told the court that sometime from May to September 7 2013, the cousins resorted to indulging in sex resulting in the girl falling pregnant.

When relatives interrogated the girl about the person responsible for the pregnancy, she implicated her cousin.
