“Declare Tsvangirai A National Hero”: Trevor Ncube Appeals To Mnangagwa

Media mogul, Trevor Ncube has appealed to President Emmerson Mnangagwa to declare the late opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai a National Hero in an open letter on Twitter. The national hero status is usually reserved for Zanu-PF members who remained loyal to the party.

Ncube argues the gesture of declaring Tsvangirai a national hero would go a long way in signaling Mnangagwa’s commitment to a new era in Zimbabwean politics and would be a first step towards nation building, peace and reconciliation.
“Declare Tsvangirai A National Hero”: Trevor Ncube Appeals To Mnangagwa

The open letter by Ncube reads:

National Hero Status for Morgan Tsvangirai

Your Excellency President Mnangagwa

I wish to strongly endorse public sentiment that the late Morgan Tsvangirai be granted national hero status and be laid to rest at the National Heroes Acre.

The granting of national hero status to the late Mr Tsvangirai would go a long way in signaling in concrete terms , your commitment to a new era in our national politics. This single gesture would move Zimbabwe towards Nation, building , healing and reconciliation.

A polarized Zimbabwe badly needs leadership that helps us rise above our political differences particularly in painful moments such as this. Statesman
ship often involves making difficult choices whose political benefits are bequeathed to posterity.

If Mnangagwa decides to declare Tsvangirai a national hero he would be the first opposition leader to be bestowed with the honour. Zanu-PF founding father Ndabaningi Sithole was not declared a national hero despite his contributions to Zimbabwe’s liberation war movement because he had gone on to form Zanu Ndonga. Sithole was buried at his rural home in Chipinge.
