#Rio2016 - David Haye says champions like Nicola Adams can help Team GB equal Olympic boxing feats of London 2012

Boxing star David Haye believes champions such as Nicola Adams can help Team GB equal its “unprecedented” medal haul achieved in the ring at London 2012.

GB won three golds, a silver and a bronze in the capital and the former heavyweight and cruiserweight world champion said: “Boxing did well at London. I’m confident we can bring home medals at Rio. The team seem confident and are fighting well.”

Haye, who retired in 2011 but has had two comeback fights since, said Adams, pictured — the first woman to win an Olympic boxing title — was an “inspiration”. He added: “The introduction of female amateur boxers, which was long, long overdue, made a real difference at London. Nicola is a real star.

“Girls want to be her— she is a fantastic role model. She is in fantastic shape, she’s committed and she’s a lovely, genuine person. She ticks all the boxes. She will do well this year.”

The Londoner, who has launched several business ventures during his career, was speaking at a promotion for new recruitment app Syft, which he has invested in.
