Engine Failure to Blame for Harrison Ford's Plane Crash, Per NTSB Preliminary Report

The National Transportation Safety Board has issued its first report about the plane crash that landed Harrison Ford in the hospital last week. The short report, obtained by The Insider With Yahoo, recounts the events last Thursday that led to Ford crash landing his vintage airplane on a Santa Monica golf course. It also claims that Ford suffered "serious" injuries in the crash.

Though Ford's specific injuries have not been reported, he remains hospitalized in Los Angeles five days later. Immediately after the plane went down, the actor's son Ben tweeted (and then deleted) that Ford was "battered, but ok."

According to the NTSB's report, Ford took off in his Ryan Aeronautical ST3KR from Santa Monica Municipal Airport at 2:22 p.m. local time. Shortly after taking off, the plane's engine failed and Ford requested permission to return to the airport. However, about 800 feet from the runway, the plane struck a tree and he was forced to make an emergency landing on a golf course nearby.

The report does not provide any reason why Ford's plane's engine would have failed, though it does state that the plane was taken to a "secure location" for further examination. US Magazine.
